Because of its own uniqueness, Bhagalpur and its rural settings provide an ideal location for establishing the Medical College. With a large hospital, abundantly equipped with modern tools, excellent infrastructure and institutional facilities, a Medical College of the high national standard became a natural consequence.

Eventually, 26th August 1992 saw the birth of Jahurul Islam Medical College as a fully residential institution.

The College at present is entirely self-contained with its own buildings housing all departments, laboratories, library, museums, dissection hall, lecture theaters, cafeteria, hostels for students of either sex, accommodation facilities for teachers, etc. Indeed, the idyll serenity of the campus and the beautifully landscaped terrain provide a pollution-free congenial environment for modern methods of teaching and learning.

The College is an affiliated and approved institution of Dhaka University, Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC), and recognized by World Health Organization (WHO).

The Nursing Training Institute was set up in 1989 to ensure the availability of trained professional nurses for the hospital as well as the country. The Institute has the approval of the Bangladesh Nursing Council and the Directorate of Nurses Services (DNS).

Jahurul Islam Medical College & Hospital has been planned to serve all sections of people by providing essential as well as specialized Medicare.

In the first phase, a 250-bed hospital has been put into service since August 1989. The number of beds has been increased to more than 500.

The hospital is equipped with the most modern and latest equipment and facilities.

In its final and ultimate phase of completion, the hospital will have 750 beds to provide all aspects of medical and surgical services. NURSING COLLEGE:

Nursing service is a vital part of medical care. Treatment plans of physicians and surgeons are much dependent and at times complementary to the professional competence of the nurses. Therefore, adequately trained nurses and proper motivation ensure services to suffering patients..

Jahurul Islam Nursing Training Institute was thus set up on August 29, 1989, first of all to train Aid Nurses with a batch of 50 students. Later on, the Diploma Nursing Course was started in December 1991 with a roll of 30 students. Most of the students are drawn locally.

The Institute has also made arrangements under which distinguished foreign experts impart training to local nurses from time to time in order to enhance their overall professional skill.

The Institute has its independent setup with teachers and students accommodation, its own library and other facilities.
